My Birth Story

Welcome Bradey Michael Dreiling!  He was born on August 5, 2010 at 1:23 am.  He weighed 8lbs 6oz and was 20 1/2 inches long.  He entered into the world in the most peaceful relaxing environment.  He was born at home in our candle lit bathroom.  There was no use of any kind of drugs or medicine.  It was as natural as it could get and it was absolutely perfect.  The birth of my son (our second child)  was a very quick experience.  I was only in labor for a few hours.  Having your children at home is completely relaxing because you are able to have all the comforts of home.  You are able to walk around and be in labor in different areas of your home.  I walked around the kitchen, changed my clothes, layed in bed and ended up in the bathtub for the birth.
When Bradey arrived,  I held him in my arms for a very long time.  He wasn't taken from me until I was ready to get out of the bathtub.  We then went into my bed where I was able to nurse him before he was examined.  The midwives then made me something to eat, cleaned my bathroom, bedroom, washed all the linens, cleaned my kitchen and went home.  I couldn't have asked for a better experience.  The next morning,  Evie (our daughter) woke up and walked into our room and discovered she had a new baby brother!  It was exciting for Evie to go through this huge transition for her in her own environment.  We are so blessed to have this little miracle in our family.  Thank you to all of our family and friends for everything that you have done for us.

US Researchers Find New Clue to Infant Deaths

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Babies who die from sudden infant death syndrome make low amounts of the message-carrying brain chemical serotonin needed to regulate sleep, breathing and heart rate, U.S. researchers said on Tuesday.

The finding, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, may help identify babies at risk for SIDS, which each year kills more than 2,300 babies before their first birthday.

They said abnormal levels of serotonin may hamper an infant's breathing, especially in challenging situations, such as breathing in too much exhaled carbon dioxide while sleeping face down.

"We have known for many years that placing infants to sleep on their backs is the single most effective way to reduce the risk of SIDS," Dr. Alan Guttmacher, director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, which funded the study.

"The current findings provide important clues to the biological basis of SIDS and may ultimately lead to ways to identify infants most at risk as well as additional strategies for reducing the risk of SIDS for all infants," Guttmacher said in a statement.

In the study, Dr. Hannah Kinney of Harvard Medical School and Children's Hospital Boston and colleagues examined brain tissue from babies who died from SIDS and from other causes.

The tissue came from the medulla, a region at the base of the brain that regulates basic functions such as body temperature, breathing, blood pressure and heart rate.

Kinney's team found that serotonin levels were 26 percent lower in tissue from babies who died of SIDS than those who died from other causes, and they also found low levels of the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase, which is needed to make serotonin.

VULNERABLE BABIES

The findings suggest that some babies have an underlying vulnerability to SIDS, which can become fatal when combined with an external stress such as sleeping face down, especially when it occurs within the first year of life.

"Our research suggests that sleep unmasks the brain defect," Kinney said in a statement.

"When the infant is breathing in the face-down position, he or she may not get enough oxygen. An infant with a normal brain stem would turn his or her head and wake up in response. But a baby with an intrinsic abnormality is unable to respond to the stressor."

The team hopes the study will lead to a test that measures a baby's serotonin levels, making it possible to identify children at highest risk for SIDS

Rates of sudden infant death syndrome, also known as cot death or crib death, have plummeted in countries where health workers have counseled parents and caregivers to put infants on their backs to sleep, to avoid keeping rooms too warm and to keep loose blankets and pillows away from infants.

This just shows why EVERY BABY MUST HAVE THEIR SPINES CHECK FOR BIRTH INDUCED SUBLUXATION! Today's modern birth protocols do not take into consideration the newborn spine.  Dr. Gutman MD showed that 80% of all children under the age of 1 have subluxation of the first cervical bone (C1) in the neck. When this bone gets twisted on during the birth process and then is left uncorrected, as the baby sleeps on it's side with the neck turned even farther for 4 to 8 hours at a time. This twisting of the C1 bone chokes off the nerve supply to the breathing system. This choking shuts down the brains messages to the breathing system and induces possibility of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. This is why EVERY NEW BORN MUST BE CHECK FOR BRITH INDUCED SUBLUXATION OF THE C1 BONE.

What are the benefits of Chiropractic Care during pregnancy?

What about chiropractic care and breach deliveries?

The late Larry Webster, D.C., Founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, developed a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment which enables chiropractors to establish balance in the pregnant woman's pelvis and reduce undue stress to her uterus and supporting ligaments. This balanced state in the pelvis makes it easier for a breech baby to turn naturally. The technique is known as the Webster Technique.

It is considered normal by some for a baby to present breech until the third trimester. Most birth practitioners are not concerned with breech presentations until a patient is 37 weeks along. Approximately 4% of all pregnancies result in a breech presentation.

The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics reported in the July/August 2002 issue an 82% success rate of babies turning vertex when doctors of chiropractic used the Webster Technique. Further, the results from the study suggest that it may be beneficial to perform the Webster Technique as soon as the 8th month of pregnancy when a woman has a breech presentation.

Currently, the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association recommends that women receive chiropractic care throughout pregnancy to establish pelvic balance and optimize the room a baby has for development throughout pregnancy. With a balanced pelvis, babies have a greater chance of moving into the correct position for birth, and the crisis and worry associated with breech and posterior presentations may be avoided altogether. Optimal baby positioning at the time of birth also eliminates the potential for dystocia (difficult labor) and therefore results in easier and safer deliveries for both the mother and baby.

 

Many midwifes recommend thier clients to have regular check-ups at a chiropractor who works with pregnant patients.

Sore shoulders and neck from breastfeeding??

Are your shoulders and neck constantly sore from breastfeeding?  Mine used to be. 
After giving birth to my daughter my whole body was achey.  I found that my shoulders were very tight and my neck was burning.  I realized it was from nursing my baby.  I knew I needed to make some changes.  It was hard to take care of my newborn with such tight muscles. 

Chiropractic care helps tremendously with neck and shoulder pain.  Getting adjusted regularly can relieve pain in those areas and help with your overall health. 

I highly reccomend it to mothers who are breastfeeding.  As your baby grows, he/she gets heavier.  It can be harder to breastfeed.  Also, your chest is larger than normal.  That extra weight can cause you back pain.

THURSDAY, July 2 (HealthDay News) -- Babies delivered by cesarean section experience changes to the DNA of white blood cells, which might explain why they're at increased risk for immunological diseases such as diabetes and asthma later in life, Swedish researchers say.

"Delivery by C-section has been associated with increased allergy, diabetes and leukemia risks," Dr. Mikael Norman, a pediatric specialist at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, said in a news release from Wiley-Blackwell publishers. "Although the underlying cause is unknown, our theory is that altered birth conditions could cause a genetic imprint in the immune cells that could play a role later in life."

Norman and his colleagues analyzed blood samples from 37 infants taken just after delivery and samples taken three to five days after birth. The blood was analyzed to assess the degree of DNA-methylation in the white blood cells, which are a key part of the immune system. In DNA-methylation, DNA is chemically modified to activate or turn off genes in response to changes in the external environment.

The 16 infants born by C-section had higher DNA-methylation rates immediately after delivery than the 21 infants born by vaginal delivery, according to the report, in the July issue of Acta Paediatrica. Three to five days after birth, both groups of infants had similar levels of DNA-methylation.

Further research is needed to determine why infants born by C-section have higher DNA-methylation rates after delivery, the researchers said.

"Animal studies have shown that negative stress around birth affects methylation of the genes, and therefore it is reasonable to believe that the differences in DNA-methylation that we found in human infants are linked to differences in birth stress," the researchers wrote.

"We know that the stress of being born is fundamentally different after planned C-section compared to normal vaginal delivery," they explained. "When babies are delivered by C-section, they are unprepared for the birth and can become more stressed after delivery than before. This is different [from] a normal vaginal delivery, where the stress gradually builds up before the actual birth, helping the baby to start breathing and quickly adapt to the new environment outside the womb."

Evies 06-09-08 b-day 020 I think any one who has been a parent will agree with this statement:  a child is a wonderful gift.  Most women desire to experience motherhood at some point in their lives.  When you realize that you are pregnant, you begin to nurture and prepare for this eventual blessed event because you spiritually know that this condition is one of the most precious and natural journeys a woman will ever know.  Then you go through the labor process.  Something that you will never forget!  And then, you lay your eyes on this beautiful, stunning baby.  What a miracle!  To think that this little creature was growing and developing inside of you for nine months. 

Now you are watching them grow up and develop.  Every day they are learning and changing.  You have to stop sometimes and cherish the moment.  What a blessing i have in my life!  Be thankful for your child.  Be thankful for the time you have with them.
